Question 1

What is vendor-outage / status-page monitoring?

Accepted Answer

It's monitoring the third-party services your product depends on — cloud providers, APIs, payment processors, auth, and AI providers. It complements monitoring your own infrastructure (observability) and pinging your own URLs (uptime monitoring). Review measured detection outcomes on the public scoreboard.

Question 2

How is this different from uptime monitoring like Pingdom or Better Stack?

Accepted Answer

Uptime monitoring checks endpoints you configure and own. Vendor-outage monitoring comes with a catalog of third-party vendors and detects their incidents — ideally from independent signals rather than only re-publishing each vendor's own status page. Many teams run both: uptime checks for their own site, and a vendor monitor for the dependency layer above it.

Question 3

Is a status-page aggregator like IsDown enough?

Accepted Answer

Aggregators are useful for broad coverage and simple alerting, and often relay vendor-reported status. Teams that need corroborated detection, root-cause context, and synthetics can compare measured outcomes on 60SecMonitor's public scoreboard.

Question 4

What should I look for when choosing a tool?

Accepted Answer

Independent detection (not just re-publishing the vendor's page), noise control via corroboration, day-one catalog coverage, AI explainability, alert routing into your on-call stack, and — crucially — whether the tool publishes a live detection scoreboard so you can verify it before you trust it.

Question 5

Does 60SecMonitor replace Datadog?

Accepted Answer

No — they solve different problems. Datadog is for deep observability of infrastructure you own. 60SecMonitor monitors the third-party vendors your stack depends on. They're complementary: Datadog for your services, 60SecMonitor for the dependency layer.

Question 6

How much does 60SecMonitor cost?

Accepted Answer

There's a free tier to get started, self-serve Pro at $59/mo, and a 14-day Pro trial with no credit card required. Higher tiers add more vendors, AI usage, and team features.
